2020 Wedding Trends
Posted on December 18th, 2019
Wedding trends are constantly changing and with a new year just around the corner, here at Drakes, Plymouth we thought it would be a great opportunity to share with you some of the upcoming wedding trends that we are expecting to see in 2020.
In terms of weddings, 2020 is looking like it is going to be a year of anything goes! Trends are moving more towards the importance of guest experience, with the average guest count having decreased over the past few years but the average spend per guest having increased.
Some of the wedding dress styles we are expecting to see during 2020 include; colour, floral, dresses with big sleeves, one-shoulder dresses, off the shoulder straps, less lace and belts. In terms of colours, we’re talking blush, cashmere, latte, warm ginger shades and apricot trims. The traditional ivory/white coloured wedding dress is something that will never be off trend, but we are definitely seeing more and more colour being introduced to bridal gowns.
When it comes to the groom, tweed suits are becoming more popular by the year. There are lots of different ways to incorporate tweed into your grooms’ attire, whether that be a full tweed suit or just the waistcoat. Male grooming before the big day is also something that has become more popular. A huge number of brides splash out before their wedding day on nails, haircuts and tans to name a few, but for the gent, treatments are becoming even more popular with grooms to be.
There are so many different options when it comes to your wedding day catering. From a beautiful sit-down wedding breakfast, to an amazing buffet or grazing platter, possibilities are endless. For 2020, we are expecting to see a lot of more customisable menus, keeping guests in mind especially when it comes to dietary requirements. Sharing style menus are also being requested more and more, from grazing tables, to help yourself plates on each of the tables, this style of wedding catering is becoming extremely popular and can look amazing! Less formal wedding style breakfasts are also becoming more popular, with afternoon teas and champagne receptions or even simple cream teas.
In terms of wedding cakes, semi-naked cakes are still hugely popular, they can be decorated in a number of unique ways with fresh fruit or beautiful flowers to match your wedding theme. Instead of the traditional layered wedding cake, we are seeing couples display each layer of their cake on different height stands, creating something visually beautiful. Other cake trends we are likely to see include; cakes iced in white chocolate ganache and cakes that are created using teal and peacock blue colours.
Using flowers to create beautiful décor for the big day is a trend we expect to see more and more of. The bridal and bridesmaids bouquets are still a big part of the day however to keep the theme of these beautiful bouquets running throughout your beautiful venue, brides and grooms are now opting for other floral decorations including incorporating edible blooms into their food and drink choices, including the cake and reception drinks, hanging flowers for decoration, creating a wow factor at the venue, floral clouds and sculptures for centre pieces and also giving guests a sneak peak of your wedding day theme on your save the dates and wedding invitations.
Your wedding rings are such an important part of your special day and are something you and your partner will wear and cherish for the rest of your lives, making it so important that you pick something that is perfect for you. Here are some of the wedding ring trends we expect to see during 2020 however, as with all of the other trends we have mentioned, these don’t need to be followed if it isn’t something you like.
A huge number of couples now choose both their engagement and wedding rings together. The advantage of doing so is eliminating the chance of picking something your partner won’t like and also knowing you will get the size right so that your partner can wear it straight away.
Another trend we are seeing more of is personalising wedding rings. From engraving, to what metals and stones you have there are so many ways for you to make your wedding ring completely your own and something that you will love wearing. A lot of the wedding rings we sell in store can be beautifully engraved for you.
The Instagram influence is a huge thing for weddings. Lots of brides and grooms to be want a venue, décor and a cake that is Instagram worthy, this ties in with the growth in popularity of flower walls and other wedding accessories. Grand stately homes are ideal for the Instagram back drop.
There are so many wedding trends that we are expecting to see in 2020 and the above are just a handful of our favourites. Hopefully these trends will help to give you some inspiration for your upcoming big day. Happy wedding planning!
