We can’t believe we have crowned our Venus Awards Inspirational Woman 2019! It has been a long, tough and hugely exciting process. It really has been an honour for Drakes, Plymouth to be part of the Devon and Cornwall Venus Awards 2019.
We had an amazing night on Friday, celebrating all the winners and finalists at St Mellion International Resort where guests were treated to a delicious 3 course meal and brilliant entertainment throughout the evening.
We started off with 75 amazing ladies in the Inspirational Woman’s category and we knew from the moment we started reading through the applications we were going to have a hard time making our decision! Our first task was to pick just 5 out of these amazing ladies to be our semi-finalists. These were announced at the Plymouth Gin Distillery back in January. We then had the pleasure of meeting each of these 5 ladies to talk to them and find out a bit more about themselves and what they do before making our next decision.
Next came picking our finalists! We had the extremely hard decision of picking 3 of our lovely semi-finalists. We had a lovely afternoon at Pentillie Castle, enjoying afternoon tea, where each of the finalists were announced. Drakes had chosen Hannah Shead of Trevi House, Jade Scott of Vospers and Alison Jordan of Pete’s Dragons as our Inspirational Woman finalists. You can read our previous blog to find out more about them.
We met up with each of our 3 finalists for a final time before picking our winner. We had such a tough decision as we found Hannah, Jade and Alison to all be amazing ladies and most importantly for our category, inspirational. After a lot of thought we made the decision, and on Friday evening Monique Hirshman, Drakes Director announced that the amazing Alison Jordan of Pete’s Dragons was our winner!
We are absolutely delighted to have Alison as the 2019 Venus Awards Devon and Cornwall Inspirational Woman. She is truly deserving of the award and we think the work she does for Pete’s Dragons is incredible. We really hope that winning this award will help to widen the recognition of Pete’s Dragons, and that more people who need help with the effects of bereavement and suicide will be able to access it. You can read more about the amazing work that Alison does here.
Drakes would like to say a huge congratulations to all the winners and finalists. We have absolutely loved being a sponsor of the Venus Awards and it has been a huge pleasure to meet so many amazing women along the way.
